Answer: 2010 California SHRM Student Games

Question: What is the annual academic event designed to foster friendly competition among university students from throughout California? This event also provides a positive and fun way to prepare students for the human resources profession; it also prepares them for the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification exam conducted by SHRM’s Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI). Using a “Jeopardy” style format, teams from each school compete over several rounds to reach the finals.

That is CORRECT!

The 2010 California SHRM Student Games are scheduled for Saturday, February 27, 2010 in Bakersfield, CA. The Games are being hosted by California State University, Bakersfield and the Kern County SHRM Chapter.

Did you know that the HR Games started in California? The HR Games were started by faculty members at the CSU Fresno Craig School of Business over a decade ago.  Since then they have grown from a strictly California event to one which covers the country.

The Student Games are a great event for students and HR Professionals alike. The student team members compete for the championship of a CA College or University and will qualify to go on to the SHRM Regional Competition in Reno, NV in March 2010. Students demonstrate their knowledge by competing to answer HR related questions. Students also get to network with experienced HR Professionals and develop great relationships. Size of the competition various on the number of schools sending teams so this is a great opportunity for Professional Chapters to support local Student Chapters.

Volunteers are needed to help in making this a successful event.  There are a number of positions that will need volunteers to perform for each round.  These positions are Moderator (Alex Trebec type), Score Keeper, Time Keeper, Matrix Manager, and a few more.  We also need Judges and Sr. Judges, so if you are HR Certified you could even do that.  All the questions – Answers – are based on the Certification Exam.  So, if you are not yet certified, it’s great way to learn.  You will be trained on how to perform the position assigned to you.

If you want additional information or are interested in volunteering please block your calendars for February 27, 2010 and send an email to Javier Lozano at
