PIHRA Foundation News

SHRM California’s Student Games took place in Bakersfield on Saturday, February 27th. Foundation Board member Roger Sommer represented your Foundation as one of the many volunteers. Additionally your Board voted to allocate $1,500 in scholarships to the winning teams. (Winning teams names were not available at press time)


Sheila Wiley of reports that “Groundhog Shadow Day” was a ‘great success.” Over 500 Los Angeles area students participated in this one-of-a-kind event on Tuesday, February 2, 2009. While some students attended a variety of hands-on work shops developing job search and preparation skills.  Many other students were actually deployed to employers for the day throughout the metro Los Angeles area.
Your PIHRA Foundation was a event sponsor by providing leadership planning, “You & Your First Job” booklets for all attendees, and also helped recruit employers to participate in the event.

With huge support from Vickie Steere from the Foundation, we are extremely excited and proud to unveil our brand new website. Our goal is to make our website a resource for volunteers, donors, PIHRA members and community members at-large. Drop by and take a look-see and let us know what you think.

Foundation President Bill Groenenkamp announced 2009’s President’s Award winner Jenny Klein, SPHR (D7). Bill shared that Jenny has been a Foundation member for a number of years and has faithfully and consistently gone beyond the call of duty on behalf of the Foundation. Jenny has been active in a number of successful Foundation projects and is always very generous with her time and energy. Congratulations Jenny!
