Silent Auction raises big bucks!
Silent Auction Chair John Silver (D4) has been seen beaming with excitement as this year’s Silent Auction results have been released. Thanks to all of the tremendous support of the PIHRA members who attended this year’s conference, the PIRHA Foundation raised over $11,000!

So many people need to be thanked – both individuals and organizations – who donated thousands of dollars worth of valuable auction items. This year several districts participated by donating gift baskets representing their geography. Additionally, thanks and congratulation goes to all of the auction winners who bid on the items. Of special note, through the generosity of Richard & Mery Propster who donated diamond jewelry, over $2,600 was raised from just one opportunity drawing. The PIHRA Board of Directors contributed $150 from money raised at the Casino Night.

John and his committee, including Jenny Klein and Barbara Allen, are exhausted but excited about the fruits of their labors. It was truly another very successful year for the Silent Auction.

Conference Stipend Winners Appreciated the Benefits the Conference Provided
Melanie Shelton, SPHR,  a member in transition from District 18 was thrilled when she got the call from Mery Propster, SPHR, PIHRA Foundation Scholarship Chair and said, ”This is the beginning of a new chapter for me!”.  She again expressed her thanks when she stopped by the Silent Auction booth for a “Kodak moment” during the Conference.  Shortly thereafter, Mery received a written thank you that said, in part:

“I just wanted to let you know what a pleasure it was to meet you and be a part of the 2010 Pacific West HR Conference.  I am grateful to you and the Foundation for offering the “Member in Transition” registration fee award.  I am a firm believer in that we must help and assist in any way possible all members of our community and the Foundation certainly did that.  Please extend my gratitude to all involved in making this a reality for myself and the other recipient of the award.”

Alexandra Pao, PHR, a member in transition from District 15 said, “I’ve never won anything so big, thank you, thank you, thank you!” when she got the call from Propster. Alexandra also sent a written thank you which reads in part:

“Thank you so much for the grant to attend the PIHRA Pacific West Conference 2010 in Pasadena, California.  During this economic hardship, the PIHRA Foundation Grant cannot have come in a more opportune time.   Without this grant, I know for a fact that I would never be able to attend this wonderful conference.   At the conference, I networked with many HR professionals including Independent HR Consultants in my area.  I received wonderful advice on how I may obtain HR contracts in addition to job search.

As a certified Professional in Human Resources, we are always in need of recertification credits and this offered us a convenient way to get recertification credits under one roof.  But most importantly, as HR Professionals, we need to stay abreast of the current trends, regulations, and best practices.  During the conference, I attended all the breakout sessions that I was able to fit in.”

The Foundation Board is grateful to all the individuals and PIHRA Districts who contribute to the success of the Silent Auction each year and those Districts who make donations throughout the year as well.  Thank you also to every bidder on the fabulous items available this year.  You make it possible for the Foundation to offer these opportunities, scholarships and many more services to our HR community. Melanie and Alexandra, the Foundation Board hopes the job of your dreams is just around the corner and that we helped make it possible.
